Create online learning experiences that are clear, welcoming, and accessible for all students. This section includes practical strategies for organizing course content, building instructor presence, supporting different learner needs, and helping students navigate the course with confidence.
A well-organized course helps students know where to go, what to do, and when assignments are due. Consistent module layouts, clear labels, and predictable navigation reduce confusion and allow students to focus more on learning instead of searching for materials or instructions.
A welcoming course environment helps students feel oriented, supported, and ready to begin. When modules include clear introductions, consistent visuals, and visible instructor presence, students are more likely to understand what to do, feel connected to the course, and move through materials with confidence.
Students are more likely to stay engaged and complete coursework when materials are easy to find, easy to access, and clearly explained. Designing with accessibility, flexibility, and mobile access in mind helps reduce confusion, supports different learner needs, and makes the course easier for all students to navigate.
CCC&TI is a proud member of the Quality Matters organization. Faculty members can create accounts through the Quality Matters Website. The Quality Matters (QM) Review offers an in-depth review with additional feedback and external validation.
Faculty may choose to complete an unofficial or official Quality Matters review for additional feedback or external validation. For additional information, please see the Review Process with Quality Matters.
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) department offers review options to support high-quality course design. We strive to review all courses each year or as requested. The Institutional Review (with Certification Option) is an in-depth evaluation that fulfills the requirement for a full review. Instructors who receive a perfect score will receive recognition as a Quality Instructor. Certification is valid for three years.
This in-depth evaluation fulfills the requirement for a full review. The college created a document based on the QM official rubric to fit the review process; however, it is specific to course design and not teaching. Instructors who receive a perfect score will receive recognition as a Quality Instructor. Certification is valid for three years.
