The Joint Chakma NGOs, comprising the Central Young Chakma Association (CYCA), Central Mizoram Chakma Students’ Union (CMCSU), and Central Chakma Mahila Samiti (CCMS), issued a joint press statement regarding the organisation of the 4th State Level Bizu Miloni held at Longpuighat.
In the statement, the organisations noted that, despite being apex bodies of the Chakma community, they were neither informed nor consulted by the organisers prior to the event. It was further observed that engagement with subordinate committees at Longpuighat had bypassed the respective Central Committees, which the organisations described as a deviation from established organisational norms and practices.
While reaffirming that Bizu should continue to be celebrated in a spirit of unity, joy, and cultural pride, the Joint Chakma NGOs expressed concern that such practices may undermine the collective and consensus-based tradition associated with the festival.
The statement further cautioned that continued disregard for proper organisational structures and consultation processes could affect the future participation and support of the apex organisations in similar initiatives.
