The Climate and Community Investment Act

What is The Climate and Community Investment Act?

The Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA) is a bill that will raise $15 billon a year by taxing corporate polluters to create green jobs, build a renewable economy, and investing in communities most effected by climate change. The CCIA will also help fund some projects that are part of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) which was passed in 2019. This is a state bill that will be voted on in the New York State Senate and Assembly. The CCIA and CLCPA were created by NY Renews, a coalition that has members from across New York State that fight for progressive climate legislation. Some of their goals include: creating good green jobs, supporting low-income communities that are impacted by climate change, transitioning to 100% clean and renewable energy, and protecting workers through the transition to a clean economy.

Our Involvement

Central Climate Initiative is an active participant in the NY Renews coalition through our involvement in the NY Renews youth council and participation in lobbying meetings and events. We also participated in NY Renews' day of faith by spreading awareness about the CCIA, making calls, and sending emails to New York state representatives.
