An Athletes sport that truly brings people together in a special way. this is one of my favorite activities to do in life because you get to run, jump throw, and keep score all while trying to destroy, more often then not, your best friends. the constant change in direction is good for balance agility, stamana and more. and the best part, you don't need much to get started. a ball, some shoes, and a pump and you are always ready to get active any time any day. this is more of a cardio then strength development and whether you are just wanting to shoot around with friends or get in a serious workout, basketball will offer whatever you like.
I remember the 1st time i ever watched a tennis match. I remember seeing Serena Williams, jump through the ball and telling myself, i am going to practice that and get it right. well, i never did, but I am still shocked at how much of a workout it is to play tennis. Stopping to change directions on a dime, driving force through the ball while keeping good aim, non-stop playing all to offer the kind of workout that creates legends. Couple of rackets, balls and some cross fit shoes to insure ankle support and the workout is underway. you need a friend for a match, but a wall will help your serve 100%.
Swimming is for the graceful. initially this excersise is very low impact, helps control breathing and stamina. the resistance from the water improves quickness and turnover in your strides and strokes. great light weight workout for the core, legs, and arms... full body workout all while staying cool and refreshed. you don't need much to swim either. a Jammer (swimming trunks), goggles, and a towel will get you started, but if you wanna go all out, get flippers and floatation divices as well to aid your workout if you decide that competitive swimming is of interest to you. it was for me... some of my most fond past times.
the starter kit to weight loss and getting health is push ups pull ups sit ups and squats. burpee's are ideal as well, but i like to incorporate a single 20 lb dumbell to my squat and i do jump squats. it helps with explosion and gives the muscle in the leg a more fast twitch develop because of the speed and force asked of the muscle exploding through the squat. amazing exersice. to make my pull ups harder i like to do muscle ups where you pull your waist to the bar instead of your chin. and superhuman push ups are how i increase my challange with push ups. its also a good idea to excersize the muscle to exaustion, so i tend to workout with heavy weight and work my weigh down, for example, i'd do muscle ups, then regular pull ups, then start doing angled pull ups till the muscle is exausted. there are a few tools for the trade, but nothing crazy and feel free to start off with the basics. its your life, live it how you feel best. jump roping is another effective excersize to improve stamina and most of all your heart and lung capacity for phsycal activity. if you have been inactive for a very long time, jump roping is a great place to start.
this is truly a sport for the purest. The equipment is expensive, the techneques are difficult not to mention dangerous if done wrong, but equips the body with a very well balance and strong body all the way around. I have no experience as an Gymnist but can't ignore the value it has in terms of strengthening the whole body.
Jujitzu is a nonleathal combat sport that helps with self defense and confidence. its a great way to get in shape, stay in shape and develop a skill as well. the confidence i watch one of my closest friends gain as he dropped over 100 lbs and learned techniques that would subdue any poor sap in seconds. Mixed Martial Arts is a lot more dangerous, but if done with the right people is just as effective and just as recommended.
many sports incorporate running and jumping and all sorts of activity that exercises the lower body but most people never get past the ability to lift say a heavy TV or delivered package. rock climbing teaches us how to control and pull up our entire body weight. to have arms that are nearly as strong as legs, give a balance of force similar to a ball, now any compound motions offers more energy when doing things like running and jumping. giving you more power and leverage to break all your old records. I love all sports that ask the muscles to get stronger from every angle. a muscle that is growing in a 360 degree fashion should make for a stronger more effective muscle not always a larger muscle which is ok with me. organic growth is not about vain appereance but maximizing the human potential.
