Now that you have experienced 5 new cultural activities it is time to reflect on them and connect them to the theory you have learned. Pick your 3 Pick 3 of your favorite events and write about them. For each of these 3 events you experienced you will write about these three things:
1. The first part is writing about your experiences
2. The second is researching about the cultural events
3. The third part is writing about the theory you have learned in this class and connecting it to your experiences.
**You must answer all the questions for all 3 events you write about.
Introduction:
In the introduction you should briefly mention the five cultural experiences you had and the theories you will mention. (The introduction should be around half a page)
Body: For each cultural experience you should write about
The first part is writing about your experiences
· Why did you choose the experience?
· What were your expectations before the experience?
· What were you surprised about?
· What did you learn about the other culture through this experience?
· Was there anything that made you uncomfortable?
2. The second is researching about the cultural events: Now research the experience and read about. You can write this about the entire evvent or just one part of the event you really liked. For example: if I went to the christmas market I could write about the history of the entire christmas market or I could just one element such as the history of the Christmas tree.
· Where is if from (what part of the world/city/mountain ect . . .)?
· What countries is it celebrated in?
· What is the origin of the cultural event? (What is the story of why or how the event started)
· How is it different in the country it is from than what you experienced in Japan?
· How has it changed over time? (This could be about the event in Japan or the event's world history.)
· Are there any dangerous aspects of this event?
· Why is it done in Japan?
3.The third part is writing about the theory you have learned in this class and connecting it to your experiences.
· Pick two theories per experience (total 6) that fit with the experience and briefly describe them? (Try to have 6 different theories without repeating)
· Did your experience match or not match with the theory?
· Why do you think this?
· Do you think other people who experienced the event would agree with you?
Conclusion:
What did you learn from these experiences overall. Do you think theory helps you understand experiences more in depth? Do you think experiencing cultural events from other culture is important? Final thoughts?
