Description:
The purpose of these participation exercises is to allow you to explore, analyze, apply, and synthesize existing course content with outside information and personal experience. From engaging in an unfamiliar activity and facilitating play for others to finding and sharing supplemental material related to course topics, this series of activities provide insight into your values concerning play. The analysis and synthesis of information in your typed explanations and discussions will assist you in better understanding the developmental play processes behind engineer play experiences.
General Requirements:
· Have Fun!
· Organize the paper in an easy to read type-written format (1” margins on all four sides).
· Turn in completed assignment on above due date
· Be prepared to share your participation exercise with students in class
· As you answer the individual exercise requirements, be sure to make connections between your personal experience and what you have learned/read/discussed in/outside class, and ask yourself “why” three times.
· Grading will be based on your ability to reflect and use critical thinking – NOT simply providing a summary. In addition
Go Play (GP)
· Explore and experience five (5) “cultural recreation” activities.
One activity is required to be on-campus
three activities are required to be of a different culture
And the last activity is your choice.
· A minimum of one hour participation is required for each of the above five activities
· Activities are approved if you can answer “yes” to ALL of the following: “Will the activity be . . .
þ A new, first-time experience?
þ Beneficial to your physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and/or spiritual growth?
þ Safe to you, others, and the environment?
þ A minimum of 60 minutes?
þ Interactive – not passive (i.e., watching TV or attending a concert)?
· Collect creative evidence for all five activities (e.g., a picture, an object from the activity, etc.)
· Bring all five pieces of evidence to class on the above due date. Be prepared to share your evidence with other students. I will not be collecting any evidence with your paper (do not staple evidence to your paper).
