Communication Policy

Canvas

I encourage you to use Canvas to email me. I check Canvas course email twice daily during the week and once on weekends. You can usually find that I reply within 24 hours or less. My best time to quickly respond to you is between 9:00am - 6:00pm. If you reach out on a Saturday or Sunday, please do not be suprised if I am a little slower to respond. Messages received on those days may be answered on the next business day following the weekend or holiday, whichever is the soonest.

An alternate method of communication will be student.rccd.edu email; therefore, if you do not regularly check that email, I highly recommend you forward your student email messages to your personal email address.

Attendance and Participation Policy

Attending this class requires that you login and participate which means completing the weekly assigned work. To be officially enrolled and not dropped in the first week of or our class, complete the following to meet this requirement: Complete the Discussion Week 1 Student Introduction. Attendance is marked by your participation in the weekly discussion posts. Participation in the form of regular log-in to Canvas and discussion posting is required.

I am required to drop all students who do not log in and participate within a week of the first day of class. You'll find that date in our detailed syllabus in Canvas. Students who do not complete the discussion post for Week 1 before the due date may be dropped. Also, you are expected to log on to our class at least two times a week and participate weekly. Students may be dropped for non-performance, which means not logging into Canvas and/or not submitting weekly assignments. However, if you decide to drop this class, it is your responsibility to drop the class.

Submission Policy

Most assignments in this course have a due date, rubric, and a deadline for submissions. Participants are expected to submit assignments on the assigned due date. Due dates have been designed in the course to ensure time is provided to allow you to complete your work.

If you recognize a specific due date might be a problem, advocate for your success by following these steps:

  1. Identify the problem.

  2. Contact me to propose a solution.

  3. Let's negotiate.

Late Work and Incomplete Policy

  • Any course work which is turned in late will receive a 50% penalty.

  • In order for me to consider a petition for an Incomplete in the course, a student must meet the following conditions. Petitions may still be denied.

      • Must have successfully completed more than 50% of the required coursework for the class.

      • Must have a current grade of at least a "C" so far in the course.

      • Must present documentation of the unforeseen emergency that prevented completion of the required coursework.

Online Etiquette

Often referred to as "netiquette," here is a gentle reminder of the interaction practices and rules we'll follow in all our interactions in this course.

  • Online classroom disruptions are not tolerated (derogatory posts, online harassment). I will follow the Student Handbook for disruptive behavior.

  • Negative, hostile comments will be documented, deleted from discussion threads, and are subject to disciplinary action.

  • I strive for excellence but make mistakes. Bringing errors or problems to my attention privately is appreciated.

If you ever feel that someone is not following these rules, please send an email me privately using the Canvas Inbox and describe your concerns.
