We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill shelter in Casper, Wyoming. We have been a part of our community for over 65 years.
Before 1956, Casper did not have an organized humane organization to care for homeless animals. Velma Funda saw the need for one and in 1956, she established a network of foster homes where animals were cared for until permanent homes were found.
In 1969, the Mountain View site was purchased, and an existing garage was utilized until a structure was built in 1978. After several years of fundraising, the present "state of the art" shelter was opened in 2003.
As a non-profit, we do not receive any government funding and rely solely on the support of donors.
Our role in the community is very important and while many people don't know the extent of our work, on any given day, we are home to more than 100 animals ranging from dogs and cats to guinea pigs, rats, reptiles, and birds. Not only do we provide basic care such as feeding and cleaning their living space, it is important to us that our animals receive spaying/neutering, vaccines, deworming, and microchipping, socialization, exercise, positive stimulation, training, and extensive vet care. Our time and attention is necessary to ensure our standards are met and our animals remain happy, healthy, and confident as they search for their new homes. On average, we find homes for over 600 animals every year. Our devotion to finding the best placement for each individual enables our ability to maintain a changing population and continue helping others in need.
It is our daily goal to ensure animals that come into our care are healthy or nursed back to health and feel love and comfort during a vulnerable time in their lives, with the help of our volunteers alongside our staff, we are able to make this possible.
