Manage school operations and resources to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Education leaders are responsible for the effective, efficient, equitable, and ethical management of schools and districts. Their responsibilities include garnering and allocating resources, monitoring and addressing internal and external regulatory requirements, developing organizational policies and practices, and other administrative duties that maintain the continued viability of the school or district. Effective leaders:
Institute, manage, and monitor operations and administrative systems that promote the mission and vision of the school.
Strategically manage staff resources, assigning and scheduling teachers and staff to roles and responsibilities that optimize their professional capacity to address each student’s learning needs.
Seek, acquire, and manage fiscal, physical, and other resources to support curriculum, instruction, and assessment; student learning community; professional capacity and community; and family and community engagement.
Are responsible, ethical, and accountable stewards of the school’s monetary and nonmonetary resources, engaging in effective budgeting and accounting practices.
Protect teachers’ and other staff members’ work and learning from disruption.
Employ technology to improve the quality and efficiency of operations and management.
Develop and maintain data and communication systems to deliver actionable information for classroom and school improvement.
Know, comply with, and help the school community understand local, state, and federal laws, rights, policies, and regulations to promote student success.
Develop and manage relationships with feeder and connecting schools for enrollment management and curricular and instructional articulation.
Develop and manage productive relationships with the central office and school board.
Develop and administer systems for fair and equitable management of conflict among students, faculty and staff, leaders, families, and community.
Manage governance processes and internal and external politics toward achieving the school’s mission and vision.
I will manage time, money, and resources in a way that puts student learning first. My approach will be thoughtful and strategic, making sure that systems are effective and support teachers’ work in the classroom. I’ll focus on transparency and fairness in all processes. When the foundation runs smoothly, teachers and students can focus on what matters most.
This year, I was allowed to help manage the duy assignments for teachers. added room numbers and sent out calendar reminders to ensure that teachers were in place. This allowed us to ensure that students were in a safe environment.
We use the SmartPass hall pass system to allow students out of the classroom. This allows everyone in the building to have visibility of students that may be out of class.
Although students can start their own passes, I create the passes for my students to ensure that students are not using the passes to skip class.
To help maintain order and clear the halls before and after transition, students are not allowed to leave during the first and last 20 minutes of class time.
I do not allow students out of class during the prescribed windows of time.
Chance's textbook provide an excellent opportunity to consider real-life scenarios that face leaders in the educational arena. The case analysis examples and exercises allowed me to reflect on my current lived experiences and how I would operate as a leader.
