Section 5: Workers Unite

This section is going to look at factory workers and resource workers along with the labour union. A take-away would be to investigate why and how workers tried to become more empowered at the beginning of the 20th century.

The headers of each section are as follows:

Work in Resource Industries (workers, working conditions, wages and benefits, and living conditions)
Factory Work (workers, working conditions, wages and benefits, and living conditions)
Labour Unions (craft unions, trade unions, and what unions achieved)

There is a lot of information in section 5 and to break it up look at creating a comparison.

Listed below are some activities that can be used as comparisons when looking at the differences and similarities among section 5.

Make a chart
Create a pros and cons list for each one
Create a Venn diagram
Draw the differences in side-by-side boxes
Write down in the same paragraph, what you noticed under the headers (resource working conditions vs. factory working conditions)
