The Village built many wide swales in Beverly Woods; some are now 18 to 20 feet wide. The following are from Beverly Woods, to show the impact of a swale. From talking to BW neighbors, mature landscaping was removed to install these. Below are also Carol Beach photos for you to imagine the impact in CB. ALL of these photos were taken with a normal lens, not a wide angle lens.
BW: The yellow tape measures 18 feet
BW: This is a "beehive" manhole in a wide swale. Swales & beehives are throughout
BW: The swale is 4 feet deep (from the road) with a beehive
BW: The size of the swale is clear in this straw covered planted area
BW: More than 1/2 the front yard is converted swale
BW: Large swale -- approximately 1/2 the front yard
BW: A swale with an open drain
BW: Another large and wide swale -- one of many
BW: Another wide and deep swale
Here are a few sample areas in our northern Carol Beach; all areas "at risk" e.g. where swales and beehive manholes could be placed. Our area has a great deal of mature vegetation and old woods. Imagine the impact 15 - 18 foot wide swales and beehive manholes
