The Pedaling for Payson event is held every September by the Concord Hospital Trust as a fundraiser for the Payson Cancer Center at Concord Hospital in Concord, NH. The event is run out of Elm Brook Park which is a US Government Army Corps of Engineers recreation area.
This event is the largest footprint event for CA-ARES. The event consist of a half dozen bike courses from a few miles up to 70 miles. The various routes take bikers all through the Hopkinton area and into the City of Concord.
Since these bike runs are run simultaneously there are a lot of moving parts and it requires a lot of radio operators.
CA-ARES sets up a tent at the park to use as the control point.
Radio operators are deployed to rest and water stops along all of the courses.
Roving mobile units also are deployed to respond to downed riders or riders who develop mechanical difficulty.
