The NH Championship Regatta is an annual event which occurs on the weekend right before the famous Head of the Charles (HOC) Regatta on the Charles River in Boston. This event is sponsored by the Amoskeag Rowing Club which owns land adjacent to the town own land known as Memorial Field. This event was held on the Hooksett portion of the river many years ago until they outgrew the space. The club still maintains a boathouse in Hooksett but is looking to relocate it to Pembroke.
The NH Championship Regatta is used by many rowers as a “warm up” for the HOC. Thousands of rowers come from all over New England and fill Memorial Field in Pembroke, NH for the one day event. This event presents some interesting challenges for CA-ARES in that we deploy radio operators in some very interesting locations. For this event, radio operators have to be completely 100% self-sufficient.
Some operators will be assigned to a safety patrol boat and may be on the water from 6:00 a.m. until the last boat crosses the finish line anywhere between 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. depending upon the number of rowers and any delays in the schedule.
Other operators will be deposited upon a beach along the river and must set up their own equipment without commercial power.
One operator is assigned to the Public Safety Command Post to pass information to and from public safety personnel.
