Art of Joseph G Capecchi

My Story

My grandfather, Joseph A Capecchi, was a true artist; emigrating from Florence, Italy as a boy to work as a sculptor and becoming president of St Paul Statuary in St Paul, MN. He also painted and worked into his 80's. His works were much in demand from family and friends.  Some of sculpture can be seen at https://sites.google.com/view/capecchifamily/art-of-joseph-a-capecchi

Science was my interest as a kid which led me to medicine. I had a successful and fulfilling career in OB/GYN until my retirement in 2015. My art career began when my, sister, Donna, suggested we get together with a local artist, Tracie Thompson. Starting with art material inherited from my mother in law, Rose Twohy, I started with pen and ink and watercolors. Wanting to learn from the beginning I enrolled in art classes at the University of Minnesota through the Senior Citizen Education Program.  I met Derek Davis through the Eagan Art House and have enjoyed painting outdoors with him. I have taken online courses and work with Ian Roberts through his Mastering Composition group and Kenzo Fry through Love Life Drawing. I have discovered that the more I study painting, the more I realize how so much more there is to learn.

My art will never be displayed in galleries or museums and I don't think I have the skill of my grandfather. However, I have been pleasantly surprised that I can put paint on canvas and that people have enjoyed my efforts.
