An Artist Statement
I am on a journey with my art both in style and technique. Essentially, I see an image I like and I paint it. The subject must express something I have a personal connection to whether it is a portrait or a landscape. It may be evocative of a person, a place or an emotion. The image may be complex but I attempt to weave individual components into a tapestry that, while not rending a realistic image, gives the viewer an impression of the subject. I have attempted to keep my style loose and utilize brush stokes that evoke impressionism. I have been influenced by the portraits by Elizabeth Peyton and the landscapes of Cynthia Daignault as well as the classic impressionists such as Camille Pissaro. While I do not aspire to be a “true artist” I hope that with time and practice I develop a style that is uniquely mine.
