25-27 February Royal Canberra Show
The Canberra Lacemakers always host a display at the Canberra Show in the Arts and Crafts Pavilion - C - Coorong, Flemington Road, Mitchell, ACT, 2911. This can be a great opportunity to meet some of us and to talk about your interests.
9 April Identification and Care of Lace
Venue: Shop 8 Paragon Mall, 8-20 Gladstone St, Fyshwick.
Some of our members will attend this event to help identify family heirlooms. This event is hosted by Endangered Heritage. If you are interested in attending, please contact Endangered Heritage on (02) 6280 6280, or by email at enquiries@endangeredheritage.com.
14-16 October National Endangered Skills and Trades Show (NEST)
Venue: The Old Bus Depot Markets, Kingston, ACT 9.00am - 4.00pm daily
NEST aims to raise awareness about traditional trades such as blacksmithing, taxidermy, bookbinding and clock making. It comes at a time when many of these trades are at risk of dying out. Members of The Canberra Lacemakers attended the show to demonstrate and answer questions about lacemaking.
We were able to host a raffle at the Show to help raise funds for the Association. The raffle was well supported by the public and members, with approx 150 tickets sold. The raffle was drawn by Committee members on Monday 31 October. Results were as follows:
1st prize: Victoria and Albert Museum Book of Lace and two hand-made Bedfordshire Lace bookmarks: Kristina;
2nd prize: A hand knitted lace shawl: George W;
3rd prize: A Buckinghamshire lace doily and a Royal Doulton posy: winner's name not supplied, only phone
number;
4th prize: A tatted lace handkerchief with white embroidery: Winners name not supplied, only phone number.
All winners were contacted on 31 October and their prizes hand delivered a couple of days later.
