Each curriculum has a section that supports the teaching of the specific subjects. This section often includes the vision and goals for the curriculum. It also has information that guides educators as they develop lessons and programs. For example, the math curriculum has specific information about how teachers approach mathematics education. This content is specific to the province and territory educators are teaching in. (Ontario Ministry of Education, 2020)
The Core Competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need in order to engage in deep, lifelong learning. Along with literacy and numeracy foundations, they are central to many province and territory's curriculum and assessment system and directly support students in their growth as educated citizens. (British Columbia Ministry of Education, 2016)
"Classroom assessments are an integral part of the instructional process and can serve as meaningful sources of information about student learning. Feedback from ongoing assessment in the classroom can be immediate and personal for a learner and guide the learner to understand their misconceptions and use the information to set new learning goals" (British Columbia Ministry of Education, 2016)
