Regular wellness exams and yearly check-ups with your vet are essential for the care of your pet -- this helps us better detect early signs of disease, allowing for treatment to stay on top of your pets health. At each exam, we do a thorough once over of your pet. This includes a weight, temperature, heart-rate, respiratory-rate, abdominal palpation, and an external feel from head to toe. Each visit, Dr. Bolser D.V.M. will examine the eyes, ears, mouth and lymph-nodes to make sure everything is in tip-top shape.
Our established clients and patients come first and we do everything in our ability to make your pet our priority. We are committed to giving every patient the level of care that they deserve and have made the necessary adjustments to accomplish just that. If we are unable to get your pet in for an appointment right away, please understand that we are doing everything we can without compromising the level of care for other patients. For this reason, we ask our clients schedule 1-2 weeks in advance. This leaves room for any potentially sick or injured patients that need to be seen ASAP.

"Core" vaccines are recommended for all pets, but we also have vaccines that may or may not be necessary depending on that particular pet's lifestyle. This would be something to discuss with your Technician or Veterinarian. Below, we've included all the vaccines that we provide for both cats and dogs.

If your pet is not feeling well or is injured, you can trust that our clinic will provide a wide variety of panels and in-house diagnostics to help get to the bottom of it. Our in-house laboratory is equipped to perform Urinalysis, Skin Scrapes, Fine Needle Aspirates, Fecal Analysis and Ear Cytology's. This way, we can obtain results quickly and send you home with medication the same day as your appointment.
For more complex testing, we will send the specimen to IDEXX laboratories, where they handle our Specialized Urinalysis, Culture + Sensitivity, Thyroid Panels, Valley Fever Testing, Basic Internal Chemistries, Fecal (O+P+Giardia), Histopathology and more. Turn around time for results can vary, but as soon as we have our diagnoses, we can start treatment accordingly.
DIGITAL RADIOLOGY (X-RAY)
Our digital x-ray is designed to help us diagnose any type of bone injury, tumors, internal injuries, kidney stones or infection. Digital x-ray's provide the highest quality of imaging available to veterinarians. With this high-end piece of equipment, we can further our diagnostic ability and provide you with timely results.
In order to achieve the best image possible, it is imperative that we keep the patient as still as possible. Sometimes, this can be a challenge for us to which we may require either sedation or anesthesia. If that is the case, this will be discussed further with you over an estimated total.
ULTRASONOGRAPHY
In the instance that we have not been able to find a diagnoses with any of the aforementioned diagnostics, we will resort to an ultrasound. The Veterinarian that does our Ultrasounds, Dr. Michael Matz, DVM DAACVIM (SAIM), comes in by appointment with his team and equipment to perform the ultrasound to which he then interprets and returns those results back to us. Similar to taking radiographs, we aim to have the patient as still as possible. In times where this is difficult to achieve, we will discuss sedation to help your pet feel as comfortable as possible, though this is a non-invasive procedure. This does require the pet to be fasted prior to the ultrasound.
Here at Cañada Hills, we offer a variety of soft tissue surgeries which are all performed by Mary Ann Bolser, DVM, under general anesthesia. These surgeries include:
Spay/Neuter
Tumor Removals
Foreign Body Removals
Minor Eye Surgeries
Bladder Stone Removal
All of our surgeries are performed with a Laser vs. the traditional scalpel. You do have the option to decline, as it does have an additional fee; however, by opting to use the Laser we would be reducing the amount of blood loss during the surgery and minimize the pain they feel while under anesthesia (and afterwards too). This is achieved by vaporizing the tissue in the area, making it less traumatic all together.
Our clinic offers thorough dental cleanings and extractions under general anesthesia. We promote healthy dental hygiene for all of our patients as it is just as important for their overall well-being. As your pet ages, their oral health begins to deteriorate which can lead to Periodontal Disease (infection of the bone/ligaments that support the teeth), gingivitis, halitosis (bad breath) and possible tooth abscess. If left untreated, Periodontal Disease can lead to abscess, infection of the bone, and can even cause liver, heart and kidney disease. To combat this, we recommend full-dental cleanings and regular check-ups to make sure there is nothing abnormal going on beyond what they will let us see.
Aside from Surgeries and Dental Cleanings, there are some performative diagnostics that may require either sedation or anesthesia, sometimes both depending on the circumstances.
Sedation
In the instance that we have a pet that is extremely anxious and or aggressive, we would approach the situation with either oral sedation or injectable sedation depending on what we are trying to perform. We, of course, try all other courses of action before we get to this point, but if the situation escalates, sedation may be the next step before anything else. Once the effects of the sedation wares off, the patient will then be good to send home without any further monitoring.
Anesthesia
We regularly use Isoflurane anesthesia for our surgeries and dental cleanings; however, on occasion, we turn to this when we have explored all of our other options to perform any type of treatment or diagnostic service. Unlike sedation alone, this will have longer lasting effects once the patient is woken up. For this reason, we like to keep the patient in-hospital until we feel the he or she is ready to go home. This does require the pet to be fasted prior to anesthesia.
Our Technicians here love to help out when they can. Here are some of the treatments we are able to provide without a full-exam.
Nail Trims
Anal Sac Expressions
Sanitary Clips
Heartworm Tests
Recurring Blood-Panel rechecks
Medication Administration
Glucose Checks
Blood Pressure Checks
Laser Therapy
If your pet suffers from small growths and warts regularly, this treatment would be something to consider. What Cryo-Freeze does is target that specific area with concentrated liquid nitrogen which will freeze the cells in that area and regress the size of the growth/wart. This does not damage the cells in that area, but may require multiple sessions. If this is something you'd be interested in trying, discuss it with your vet at your pets next visit.
Photobiomodulation, otherwise known as laser therapy, is a treatment option to reduce pain and inflammation your pet may be experiencing. It targets damaged cells and helps them regenerate faster, resulting in faster healing and recovery time. Laser therapy is a drug free, side-effect free, treatment that can be used in addition to your pet's proposed treatment plan. Each treatment on average can take 3 to 7 minutes long, however this is dependent on what is being treated and times may vary. Eye protection is needed while performing therapy, so your technician and pet will be wearing a cute pair of goggles while undergoing treatment. If your pet will not tolerate the goggles we have a black towel that can be used in place to cover your pets eyes. During treatment, a handpiece is passed over the targeted area of concern. We will choose the according handpiece to use depending on the condition we are treating, either non-contact, or contact handpiece of various sizes. Additionally, there is no need to clip or shave your pet's fur. Most pets do very will while undergoing treatment.
The laser can treat the following:
Arthritis
Wounds
Pain/Trauma
Inflammation
Post-op Recovery
Fractures
Hot Spots
Lick Granulomas
Otitis
Stomatitis
Urinary tract Disorders
Abdominal Disorders
Thoracic Disorders
And a few more!
If this is something you'd be interested in trying, discuss it with your vet at your pets next visit.
All of us, as pet owners, want the best for our fur-babies. Sometimes there are topics we'd like more information on or we have basic questions that don't necessarily warrant a full-exam. In instances like these, our hospital offers both in-office consultations as well as phone consultations with the vet. These do have their own separate fee, but would be optimal for any conversation that wouldn't require the pet to be here physically.
Being a single Doctor practice means that our vet is working above and beyond to treat all of her patients. We ask that our clients be patient and understanding with her time, as it is consumed by her beloved practice.
Any time the Veterinarian spends giving medical advice must be compensated for. Contact our front office for consultation pricing.
