The goat that is tattooed on Zac. Source
WEEK THREE
MONDAY
Dear Diary,
Okay, you are gonna lose it because some major gossip came out over the weekend! Before I get to that though I first need to update you on the usual camp stuff. This weekend was good! I received a letter from Dad. He says everything in the water is smooth sailing. I am definitely starting to miss him, but being camp leader sure is keeping me busy! Speaking of being busy, back to what you really want to hear about-THE GOSSIP. Everyone always knew Zac was a little off, but nobody dared to say anything as his dad is Zeus. Well, this weekend word got out as to why he always seemed to be a little weird! UGH just as I was getting to the juicy part, I have to go give ear drops before swimming! I promise I will update you soon!
Love,
Penny
TUESDAY
Dear Diary,
I am so sorry I had to run off yesterday! Things got busy and I did not have a chance to come back and write. Anyways, well, Demi was a little drunk off of some punch she snuck into camp, or, well, I am sure her dad snuck it in as he is the god of wine...anyways while she was under the influence she let it slip that Zac, SON OF ZEUS, WAS RAISED ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN BY A GOAT-HOW INSANE IS THAT!!! Not only was he stranded on the side of a random mountain, but he literally drank milk from his goat-nanny! She raised him and taught him everything. Well, we all lost our minds at this news and that is not even the worst of it. Once he got old enough to come down the mountain safely, HE KILLED HER. He needed some coat to get back down the mountain as it was super cold, so he used her hide, or at least that is the story that is going around. Unsurprisingly, it has scarred him for life and now he keeps to himself! I feel so bad for the poor kid. It is no wonder he has some issues. Oh, he just walked in I will let you know what he says.
Love,
Penny
WEDNESDAY
Dear Diary,
Well, Zac came into my room last night with Hector and they were both stoned. Hector brought some "herb" with him and I guess they figured this was the best time to use it. As soon as Zac walked in the door he started talking about his guilt and his goat-nanny. Her name was Amy, and he showed us a tattoo of a goat on his side. Pretty morbid to get a goat that you killed on your side, but whatever, not my body. We talked about it and I told everyone to lay off since it is so traumatizing. I will have to keep an eye on everyone as they now call him "Goat-Boy,"but I will be vigilant in my efforts. I doubt anything the rest of this week will come close to this gossip, so until I get some more details- BYE!
Love,
Penny
Bibliography: This story is based off of Amalthea found here
Author's Note:
For this story, I took the idea of a person, Amalthea, and used her background as this story plot. Amalthea is a separate Goddess and so even though this story is based around Zeus, it is actually off of her! Zeus was hidden as he was going to be eaten by Cronus out of fear of being overthrown. His mother, Rhea, devised this plan to keep him safe. I followed this story pretty close, as Amalthea was the nurse (and a goat) to Zeus. In the original story Zeus killed her and used her hide to create his thunder-shield and took her crown to make the horn of plenty. I did not want to get into the difficulties of giving Zac powers at the summer camp so I decided to simply use her for a coat! I wanted to incorporate more gods from the introduction so I decided to include Demi and Hector, no matter how small their parts! I wanted to write more about the "herb" but as I started researching stories I simply fell in love with the idea of this one! Plus, as Zac is a representation of Zeus, I figured a story should be dedicated to him. I chose a goat for my image as it is what Amalthea is, and the tattoo he has (side note: in the original story there is no tattoo).
