3–19. Civilian education
f. Defense Language Proficiency Test. Twenty-five promotion points are granted to Soldiers who achieve a minimum limited working proficiency rating of 1/1 (listening, reading, or speaking) on the Defense Language Proficiency Test. Promotion points remain valid provided the Defense Language Proficiency Test proficiency standards do not exceed 1 year (year/month) as of the point compilation month.

Before you can schedule a DLPT (language exam), you have to complete the following:
review the sample 4187 to ensure that you complete the document correctly
type your information into a blank 4187 (download below) following the sample
acquire permission and CAC signature from your commander
submit the 4187 to Education Center to schedule your language exam
NOTE: The 4187 must be typed and it must be e-sign with CAC by your commander
