堂区背景与神圣祝圣 

本堂位于双溪槟榔（Sungai Pinang），最初是作为圣方济各沙勿略堂的一个分堂（Out-station）而设立，旨在照顾百大尼路（Patani Road）及双溪槟榔一带的教友家庭。教堂由蒙席级副主教 I.J. Aloysius 兴建，并于 1969年6月15日 祝圣启用，以曾在印度传教的圣人圣若望伯理多命名。

牧民工作与社区服务 

本堂于 1970年10月25日 正式升格为独立堂区，由 MEP 的里戈蒂尔神父（Fr. Arsene Rigottier） 担任首任主任司铎。里戈蒂尔神父致力于跨族群服务，创办了招收各族贫寒子弟的幼儿园，并开设缝纫班及慈善诊所。为了方便社群活动及技能培训，教堂在 1972年 兴建了堂区礼堂。

合并与现状 

1988年，本堂与乔治市内其他三座圣堂合并，组成了城市堂区（City Parish）。现今，本堂的行政与牧灵事务由设在痛苦之母堂的城市堂区办事处统一管理，并由本堂神父温耀仁神父（Fr. Edmund Woon）统领。

Establishment and Blessing 

Located in Sungai Pinang, this church was originally an out-station of the Church of St. Francis Xavier. Built by Msgr. Ignatius John Aloysius, it was blessed on 15 June 1969 and named after the renowned missionary to India, St. John Britto. It was primarily established to serve the Indian Catholic families working in the surrounding areas.

Pastoral Mission and Social Outreach 

On 25 October 1970, it was declared an independent parish, with Fr. Arsene Rigottier, MEP, as the first Parish Priest. Fr. Rigottier was known for his inclusive social work, establishing a multi-racial kindergarten, sewing classes, and a charity clinic to help the poor. A Parish Hall was later added in 1972 to host community seminars, weddings, and vocational training.

Current Status 

In 1988, following the redistribution of the urban population, the church was merged into the City Parish. It currently functions under the administration of the City Parish, with Rev. Fr. Edmund Woon serving as the Parish Priest
