RIO GRANDE - DIVISION 6

Rio Grande Division 6 members have been busy this summer preparing for the 2014 RAILS ALONG THE RIO GRANDE TRAIN SHOW which will be held at the National Guard Armory in Albuquerque, November 14-16. 

A number of activities have taken place over the last several months. In July, members railfanned the BNSF Transcon at Mountainair, NM, with lunch at the Shafer Hotel. In August, we hosted Verryl Fosnight, from Cornville, Arizona. He gave a presentation to over 40 members, about his large HO layout, the Union Pacific Wyoming Division, and its unique operating and card system. At the September meeting, the Harvey Girls gave a talk about the "good old days" working for Fred Harvey and his impact on the Santa Fe railroad.

The Division 6 sponsored Rio Grande Model Railroad Club, for boys and girls, ages 8-18, celebrated its 1st anniversary in October. The club members, along with a parent or guardian, have been busy building the Spokane Valley Northern HO 4' X 8' layout, along with the 12th Street switching yard. They have been doing track laying, ballasting, scenery, and assembling freight car kits. The layout is operational, and will be at the TRAIN SHOW in November. 

The goal of the club is to provide boys and girls who love trains with an opportunity to have FUN learning about building and operating model trains and layouts. Al Hovey, RMR Vice-President, is the director of the Club. Many Rio Grande Division 6 members have helped with building and teaching the youth about railroads, modeling, and operating trains. The Club meets the second Saturday of every month.

Rio Grande Division 6 meetings are on the second Saturday of the odd numbered months. When in Albuquerque look us up and join us for MODEL RAILROADING FUN!!!
