Project Description
This project explores how social media impacts society as well as how it affects my own habits and daily life. By reviewing research, current statistics, and completing a social media addiction survey, I was able to reflect more critically on my relationship with social media and its broader influence.
Social Media Addiction Survey Results
After completing the social media addiction quiz, my results showed that I fall into the moderate usage range. I was not completely surprised by this result because I check social media multiple times a day, especially during downtime or when I am bored. However, seeing the result made me more aware of how often I use social media without thinking about it. This reflection helped me recognize the importance of setting boundaries with my screen time.
Chart From My Research
Interesting Social Media Statistic
One statistic from the Pew Research Center that stood out to me showed that a large majority of adults use at least one social media platform daily. I chose this statistic because it highlights how deeply social media is integrated into everyday life, not just for entertainment but also for communication and information. This statistic is interesting to me because it explains why social media feels unavoidable and why taking breaks from it can sometimes feel difficult. It also helped me realize that my experience with social media is shared by many others.
Social Media’s Impact on Society
In my opinion, social media has both positive and negative effects on society, but its influence is extremely powerful. On the positive side, social media makes it easier for people to stay connected, share information quickly, and build communities around shared interests. At the same time, it can contribute to comparison, misinformation, and overuse, which negatively affects mental health. I think social media encourages people to present unrealistic versions of their lives, which can create pressure and insecurity. Overall, social media is a useful tool, but it needs to be used more mindfully to prevent it from becoming harmful.
Lessons Learned
Through this project, I learned that my social media habits are more ingrained than I realized. I also learned how widespread social media use is and how it affects people on a societal level. This project encouraged me to be more intentional about how and why I use social media.
