What I Learned
This semester, I developed a set of technical skills that are not only essential for academic success but directly applicable to my future nursing career. I mastered Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, learning to create professional documents, organize complex data, and present information effectively. For instance, I designed an Excel spreadsheet simulating patient care metrics, using formulas and charts to track trends in vital signs and medication schedules—an exercise that mirrors real-life nursing documentation and analysis.
Beyond Microsoft Office, I explored cloud-based tools, collaborative platforms, and online databases, which enhanced my ability to research, communicate, and manage information efficiently. I also practiced designing visuals such as charts, graphs, and infographics to convey information clearly to peers and instructors—a skill that translates directly to educating patients and families in healthcare settings.
These technical skills taught me that technology is more than a requirement; it is a tool to improve patient care, streamline communication, and make complex information accessible. I now feel confident integrating digital tools into my nursing practice, from managing patient records to presenting findings to healthcare teams, proving that digital literacy is not optional but essential in modern nursing.
