YiSHDA Menstrual Hygiene Corner at Government Girls Science Secondary School Kuje, Abuja - Nigeria By Airtel Nigeria.
Adolescent girls in Nigeria especially in low-income communities often face the challenge of lack of access to menstrual products. Without proper sanitary supplies, they may resort to using newspapers, dirty rags and even leaves to manage their periods. The combination of period poverty, stigmatization, and inadequate reproductive and sexual health education often have major consequences for girl's wellbeing. It also prevents girls from staying in school and thereby ending their education.
With support from Airtel Nigeria, through the Airtel Touching Lives Program, YiSHDA designed the Menstrual Hygiene Corner intending to create and cultivate local and global partnerships to combating period poverty by providing bulk supplies of sanitary kits to girls at Government Girls Science Secondary School, Kuje (GGSS Kuje) Abuja. YiSHDA is proud of this ambitious project as this is the first of its kind in Nigeria. The corner will provide supplies to 2000 adolescent girls in Government Girls Science Secondary School Kuje, Abuja and access to quality information on sexual and reproductive health education through training and interactive dialogue to girls from within the host community as well.
