THE WORKING HANDS
As I walked around Jabi Spare Parts Market, a voice called out to me:
"You no go snap me?"
The man who spoke was Mr. Innocent also know as Abagana a spare parts dealer. He stood in his shop surrounded by an assortment of car parts—brakes, steering knuckles, alternators—each item a testament to his trade.
Eager to share his life story, he recounted his journey as an Igbo man who once owned a thriving shop in Maiduguri. For 34 years, his business flourished until insurgency reduced it all to nothing. He tried to remain in Borno despite the growing danger, but eventually, he had no choice but to leave.
Mr. Innocent packed up his life and moved to Abuja for safety, starting over from scratch.
As he told his story, there was no trace of bitterness or regret. He spoke like someone who had come to terms with his trials, embodying resilience and determination. His ability to rebuild after losing everything was remarkable—a reminder of the strength, dedication, and perseverance that define so many Nigerians.
