CMSA RULES – 5-PITCH
The game will consist of 6 innings with play times as follows:
- Games starting at 6:15 pm with no new inning started after 7:30 pm.
- Games starting at 7:30 pm with no new inning started after 8:45 pm.
- Games starting at 7:45 pm with no new inning started after 9:00 pm.
There are 10-12 players per team with only 10 players taking fielding positions.
The team at bat, will supply their own pitcher, who will not be allowed to play the ball after it is hit or interfere with the ball in any way. However, if the ball is hit and, in the opinion of the Umpire, the pitcher did not deliberately interfere, then all runners get one base and time is called.
Ages for 5 Pitch are 7-10 years old
All names must appear in the batting order and this order is to be maintained at all times. If the team goes out of order but it is caught before the first pitch nothing happens. However, if a ball has been pitched then that batter is out. Players may be taken in and out of play as often as Coaches wish. However, batting order is to stay the same.
In cases where it is medically necessary, a batter may be replaced by a runner once they have made it to 1st base.
Away team hits first.
A player shall not play the same infield position for more than two consecutive innings and every player shall play the outfield at least once during a game.
There is no stealing of bases or lead offs. Player will be called out if not touching the bag before a pitch is thrown. Helmet to be worn even when running bases.
The side is retired when there are 3 out or a total of 5 runs have been scored.
Infield fly ball rule is “NOT” in effect.
Batter will be called out by the Umpire for throwing their bat. One warning!
If ball is thrown out of play, the umpire will call time and all runners will get the base they were going to but no more.
A Rover must be placed in the pitcher circle until the ball has been released from the pitcher. Pitcher and Rover will wear a helmet with facemask. Play will stop when the rover has possession of the ball in the circle.
Batter must take a full meaningful swing. NO BUNTING!!! The ball must pass the 5 foot line (marked by the Umpire at the beginning of the game and maintained).
No food or drink allowed on playing field.
Long pants, athletic footwear and team shirt MUST be worn by players. Coaches must wear team shirt provided. Players and Coaches not in proper uniform must sit out. Shorts are not permitted for players.
No personal electronic devices allowed while playing (dugout or on the field, Phones, IPods etc.)
All players are to remain in the dugout unless they are the next at bat. The team will be warned once for any player who is on the playing field and not next at bat. If a second warning is necessary, the batter will be called out (Umpire’s call).
Pitching - A pitcher may pitch from anywhere in the circle but must maintain contact on the ground inside the circle (i.e. they cannot start in the circle and rock forward on to the front foot while lifting the back foot and losing contact with the ground inside the circle. They can lift their back foot if their front foot is still within the circle.)
All equipment is to be kept outside the fence off the playing field except when in use.
Coaches to submit scores at end of every game.
