Ansys for Academic

Academic Program

Thousands of universities around the world use Ansys Academic engineering simulation software to help undergraduate students learn physics principles; researchers solve complex engineering problems; and postgraduate students produce data for their master’s theses or doctoral dissertations.

The Academic Program also offers unique materials education resources, which support teaching of engineering, science and design curricula. Additionally, students take advantage of our free student software downloads for homework outside of the classroom, capstone projects, student competitions and more.

  • Ansys Innovation courses

Ansys Innovation Courses are free, online physics and engineering courses. The ever-expanding course offering is designed with educators, students and engineers in mind. High school educators and college professors can assign the courses to enhance simulation and physics learning in the classroom, while students and engineers can take these self-paced courses to deepen their understanding of selected subjects.

The course content uses an Ansys simulation environment to present and reinforce physics fundamentals. Each Ansys course includes videos, handouts, practice or homework problem sets and short quizzes. More

  • Ansys Learning Forum

The Ansys Learning Forum is the go-to place for students, educators, researchers and industry engineers to engage with peers and Ansys experts. Search by topic of interest, join a conversation in progress or post a question or response. More

  • Ansys LS-Dyna Student 2020 R2

Ansys LS-Dyna is a general-purpose finite element code for simulating the response of materials to short periods of severe loading. It is the most commonly used explicit program for solving nonlinear, transient and dynamic problems using explicit time integration. Our student version is an extracted version of our commercial LS-DYNA product with some limitations suitable for solving academic problems. It includes LS-DYNA solver and Ansys LS-PrePost.

LS-DYNA is used in applications such as automotive crashes, bird strikes in aerospace and other high-impact applications involving large deformations. These include explosions, drop analysis and injury mechanism investigation among many others.

  • Materials Education Resources

GRANTA EduPack is a unique set of teaching resources that support materials education across engineering, design, science and sustainable development.

GRANTA EduPack provides:

  • A comprehensive database of materials and process information

  • Powerful materials software tools

  • A range of supporting resources: e.g. lectures, projects and exercises

The database and tools are divided into three levels so that students can access a suitable level of materials information as they progress through their studies, from pre-university up to postgraduate courses. For materials selection in research, find out about GRANTA Selector.

GRANTA EduPack has also been designed to support a wide variety of teaching styles, from the design-led and science-led approaches to problem-based teaching. More

High-performance computing (HPC) is an important consideration for academia. Complex research projects often involve simulating large assemblies, or even entire systems, which demand considerable computational resources when rapid results are required. The widespread availability of multicore processors, even in laptops, allows for impressive performance gains for medium- to large-numerical problem sizes.
