Iconic Federal Building Occupied in 1977 Section 504 Sit-In Now Potentially Up for Sale
Wired is reporting that the Trump Administration is moving to reduce the U.S. “owned real estate footprint by 50% and the number of buildings by 70%”. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 50 United Nations Plaza in San Francisco is on the list of federal properties to be sold. That building currently serves as a General Services Administration (GSA) regional headquarters. But in 1977, it was home to the U.S. Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW), which subsequently split into two separate agencies (including HHS). Congress had tasked HEW with creating regulations to implement Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
