A: It is an unavoidable specification. Currently, CarveWords does not support word inflection.
Although there is some regularity in word change, there are many exceptions. Therefore, in order to deal with inflections correctly, we need a huge dictionary that covers inflections of all existing words.
This is the biggest obstacle, but even if such an open dictionary were to exist, it would be necessary to solve the problems of increasing the size of extension functions and increasing the CPU load required for search processing by incorporating it.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but please manually change the variations of words you have already learned to "Know".
A: This is an unavoidable side effect.
CarveWords rewrites HTML elements into a special structure to highlight and select words. These conditions are unexpected for programs on the web page and for other extensions and may cause malfunctions. In such cases, reloading the page will restore the original state.
A: Due to the side effects mentioned above, we do not think it is appropriate to do this all the time.
Also, in order to do this automatically without user intervention, the extension would need to be granted privacy permissions. Given that students, i.e., young people including minors and children, are the main users, this is also not appropriate. Of course, CarveWords will not steal your private information but asking for such privacy permissions might be a source of concern for some students and their parents.
A: The OS must have a text-to-speech function and one or more voices must be installed. Please check the volume setting of your PC and the speaker/headphone connection.
Also, if you have selected cloud voice, it won't work offline.
A: This is because cloud synchronization is on. You can turn it off from the Vocabulary tab of the Options.
Also, to delete vocabulary stored on Google Drive, login to Google Drive and go to "Settings > Manage Apps > CarveWords > Options > Delete hidden app data".
A: CarveWords scans the HTML of the web page and mechanically collects words from all elements except certain ones. However, not all HTML elements are visible to the user. There are tabs and pop-ups that appear in response to actions, hidden elements that are not intended to be displayed, and so on.
If there are unknown words in such invisible elements, the readability value is reduced accordingly. Also, some pages might have dynamically rewritten content. It is technically difficult to select only visible words on a web page.
For these reasons, readability % should not be taken as absolutely accurate, but as an estimate.
A: To prevent slow browser performance, word scanning may be interrupted on extremely long pages, such as novels.
A: CarveWords does not support PDF format. It is optimized to work on web pages, that is with HTML format.
A: CarveWords is not compatible with Google Docs and similar web applications.
Google Docs is a sophisticated web application that uses the text editing area as a canvas element and handles and draws text and UI operations on its own; CarveWords cannot enter these structures and rewrite them in the same way as regular HTML.
