Comprehensible Reader Generator (CRG) is a concept of an English learning tool on which CarveWords is based. You can read about it here.
The first main idea is that one can acquire English by just reading comprehensible texts (Comprehensible Input theory). The issue is that it's difficult to find such texts for a specific learner. And this leads to the second main idea, that an AI (e.g. GPT-3) can generate such texts by taking into account the learner's English level.
After publishing the article I shared it around with folks who I thought might find it interesting. One of them was Masato Taniguchi, the creator of Jisū. To my surprise, he not only responded to my email but made a prototype extension with basic features, which is CarveWords. I still can't believe how lucky I got to meet Taniguchi San, and I'm infinitely grateful to him.
This project has two goals. The first milestone is to keep on developing CarveWords extension to answer the question - does retrieval practice while reading help remember new words? If the answer is positive the next stage will be to tackle the concept of generating comprehensible text with AI.
