Varicella (Chickenpox) is a viral disease characterized by an itchy rash that can leave scars, along with fever and fatigue. Complications may include skin infections, pneumonia, encephalitis, and death. Later in life, the virus can reactivate and cause shingles, a painful, blistering rash.
Delivery:
1.If a student HAVE copies of old/previous blood test reports, NO FURTHER BLOOD WORK TESTS REQUIRED
2.If a student DOES NOT HAVE copies of old/previous blood test reports, BLOOD WORK TESTS ARE REQUIRED - Family Physician office, Seneca Health Centre, Walk-in clinic, Laboratory clinic)
If requires vaccination - Family Physician office, Seneca Health Centre, Walk-in clinic
Instruction:
If you have copies of your old/previous blood test reports, you may use them for clearance review.
HCP will request the laboratory test to check for immunity if you do not have copies of your old/previous blood test reports.
HCP will provide you with the blood test reports and/or vaccine receipt (if applicable).
Test result:
CONFIRMED EVIDENCE OF IMMUNITY – no further action needed
NO EVIDENCE OF IMMUNITY – 2 doses required
INDETERMINATE – booster is not required but you must discuss with your HCP
Average time of completion: 4 weeks
1st dose - immediately
2nd dose - after 4 weeks
