Celebrating Growth, Learning, and Fun in Scouting!
The Basics
Advancement is how Cub Scouts learn new skills, try new activities, and grow in character.
Scouts complete age-appropriate adventures and earn badges, belt loops, and pins as they progress.
Advancement is about doing your best—not perfection!
👉 Scouts can join at any grade—no need to start in Kindergarten!
Ranks by Grade Level
Lion – Kindergarten
Tiger – 1st Grade
Wolf – 2nd Grade
Bear – 3rd Grade
Webelos – 4th Grade
Arrow of Light (AOL) – 5th Grade
How Advancement Works
Scouts complete adventures at Den meetings, Pack events, or at home with family.
Adventures cover a wide range of activities: outdoor skills, teamwork, citizenship, STEM, and character building.
When requirements are completed, Scouts are recognized with immediate awards at Den or Pack meetings.
Why Advancement Matters
Advancement encourages Scouts to:
Try new things and discover new interests.
Build confidence by setting and reaching goals.
Develop responsibility by tracking their progress.
Celebrate achievements big and small with family and friends.
🏅 Recognition
Scouts receive belt loops or pins for completed adventures.
At the end of each year, Scouts who finish the requirements earn their rank badge.
Ceremonies and Pack meetings highlight each Scout’s hard work!
