This is a basic course designed to give students an opportunity to study the fundamental aspects of music reading and writing. Students learn to notate music, rhythms, key signatures, time signatures, and other elements needed to apply their knowledge.
Prerequisite: Demonstrated Proficiency / Teacher Recommendation.
Open to all current or former music students with at least 3 years of experience in an ensemble class and/or 1-2 years of music theory experience. AP music theory is the equivalent of 2 semesters of collegiate-level music theory and ear training (aural) skills.This course is for serious music students to prepare for freshman college theory and/or to expand their musical knowledge. AP Music Theory covers the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a musical score. Achievement of these goals is approached by addressing fundamental aural, analytical, and compositional skills using both listening and written exercises.
