In 2022, a representative from each of the 16 UK Dental Schools involved in the statistics-related teaching for dental undergraduates was identified, and the "Dental Statistics Teachers’ Group” was formed. This group aims to enhance undergraduate dental education in terms of statistics-related teaching, where “statistics-related” refers to any relevant statistics, research methods, critical appraisal or evidence-based practice teaching.
So far there have been three discussion meetings online and one in person, and we will continue to meet on an ad hoc basis to discuss specific activities. We have also invited representatives from the two Republic of Ireland Dental Schools to join our group.
Our first activity was to undertake a survey to comprehensively capture the current state of statistics-related teaching in the 18 Dental Schools; the findings have recently been published in the British Dental Journal:
