Burak Yüksel (Dr.-Ing.)
Team Lead Flight Control/Aircraft Systems Architect @ Volocopter GmbH
From low-level actuation through physics-model based control and estimation theory to the high-level decision making algorithms (learning, perception, path/trajectory generation) I bring systematic engineering solutions with a great team. In the meantime I am building an extensive know-how in the field of robotics, aerial robotics and aviation.
Currently, I am:
the Team Lead (interim Head of) of the Flight Control and Navigation Team and Aircraft Systems Architect @Volocopter in Munich, Germany. At Volocopter we are building the first manned, fully electric and safe VTOL in the world. We want to make humanity’s dream of flying come true and help modern cities resolve their increasing mobility issues.
What I have been doing in short and key words:
Flight Control Systems
Automated Flight Systems
Flight Control Software
Flight Control Laws
Sensor Data Fusion for State Estimation
Flight Physics, Flight Mechanics
Electric Propulsion
Matlab, Simulink, Python, C, C++, ROS
ARP4754, DO-178, DO-254, DO-160
DE, CVE
Statement of Work, Supplier Management
System and component level design description and requirements (left side of V&V)
SC-VTOL, CS-27, CS-29
Flight Test, MiL, SiL, HiL.
I was also a lecturer Introduction to Aerial Robotics at University of Stuttgart.
PhD (Dr.-Ing.) in the field of Robotics, System Theory and Control Engineering with Magna cum Laude at Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tübingen and Institute of Systems Theory and Automatic Control, University of Stuttgart.
I speak English, German and Turkish fluently.
Full CV is available here.
My PhD thesis as a book is published here.
Technical background in:
Certifiable Flight Control Laws for complex electric VTOL aircrafts
Nonlinear Control Theory (especially on Exact feedback linearization, differential flatness, passivity-based controllers)
I was before:
a Development Engineer in ITK-Engineering, Stuttgart, Germany, since January 2017. The company is specialized in "technical cybernetics", i.e. developing control technologies for different industries from automotive to aerospace engineering and robotics.
I was a PhD student at the Autonomous Robotics and Human-Machine Systems Group of Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tubingen, Germany.
I was also a PhD student at University of Stuttgart, under the supervision of Prof. Frank Allgoewer in IST-Stuttgart.
I was supervised by Dr. Antonio Franchi and Prof. Dr. Heinrich H. Buelthoff.
I was also a visiting PhD student between October 2014-April 2015 in RIS Team at LAAS-CNRS, France with Eiffel Excellence Scholarship in PhD.
I got my master degree on Control Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey and my bachelor degrees on Mechatronics Engineering from Bochum University of Applied Sciences, Germany together with Kocaeli University, Turkey.
