My name is Elissa C. Cadillic.
I have been the President of AFSCME 1526, Boston Public Library Employees Union , Boston, MA since 2005. My role involves working with a variety of coalitions to improve working conditions and support community change. In 2010, I was in a leadership role in the Save the Library Coalition, made up of union members, staff, community members, and other social advocacy groups. We successfully prevented the closing of branch libraries.
At the conclusion of our campaign, I presented at the American Library Association Conference, June 2011, part of a panel titled, "Libraries Fight Back".
I am currently the Board Chair of the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health (MassCOSH), an organization focused on improving working conditions for all workers, regardless of affiliation, job, age, or status. MassCOSH is a leading member of coalitions as well as supporting others.
I am also the Training Coordinator at Boston Public Library, Boston, MA, a position I've held since 2006.
As an educator and Board Member of the Labor Guild, an organization dedicated to social justice, I developed a semester long Building Successful Coalitions course, the predecessor to my online course.
