Summary This workshop will include a panel discussion, a Q&A session, and small breakout groups. This workshop will explain the principles and strategies at the heart of effective Family/Community Engagement, and will focus on both high tech and low tech options for communications and relationship building. Participants will leave with strategies that help them engage in their own communities, target populations of people depending on the types of relationships they are trying to build, and organizational tools that help sustain relationships and community engagement.
Diamonté Brown, Corey Gaber, Jessica Fauntleroy, and Franca Muller Paz have all successfully built effective, meaningful, and fruitful relationships with people in Baltimore city neighborhoods and school communities that are directly impacted by issues that plague our city and our schools. Collectively, these facilitators have built relationships to pass laws, change school policy, improve communities, provide mutual aid, protest harm to communities, and organize and mobilize the directly impacted to execute actions that they determine will resolve their concerns. These facilitators have expertise in building relationships and engaging several different communities, constituencies, and groups of people including, but not limited to, parents, students, youth, people that were formerly incarcerated, people with criminal records, Baltimoreans, voters, school staff, and community organizations.
