Summary In order to proactively address the education burnout that typically occurs each year, participants will be introduced to the work of Emily Nagoski PhD. and Amelia Nagoski DMA in their book Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle. Participants will receive a brief exploration of the stress cycle, complete a mini introspection of stressors, begin an identification of inevitable stressors, and create a confrontation plan to address their own stress cycles. The goal of this workshop is to proactively equip teachers to hurdle burnout in order to retain mentally healthy individuals to the profession.
My name is Hannah Scouten. I have been working for Baltimore City Public Schools for eight years as a high school English teacher, but within my twelve years of teaching I have taught all grades sixth-twelfth--special education, general education, and gifted. I also recently transitioned into an instructional coaching position, and I am passionate about teacher mental health and wellness. Part of my own mental health journey included reading the book Burnout by the Nagoski sisters that is the foundation for this workshop today.
