Writing Your Own Rubrics

Now that all the aspects of rubric writing have been considered and you have had an opportunity to evaluate rubrics, it is time to write your own rubrics for future assignments, or amend what you currently have.

You may wish to:

  • Amend the vocabulary you use in the rubric to include a hierarchy of thinking

  • Make the language more positive for D and E students

  • Use one criterion for one assessable quality

It is possible to feel overwhelmed with this task. If you feel your rubrics do need working on, start with one assessment and gradually replace your rubrics. They do not all need rewriting at once.

Be collaborative and seek feedback on your rubrics. What can make sense to you, may not be clear to someone else.

Once you have finished working on your own rubrics, complete the activity.

Now complete the final activity here: Activity 3: Writing Quality Rubrics Review. Don't forget to press submit when you have finished.
