Amanda Meeks serves as the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Strategic Improvement and is entering her fourth year with the Department. Prior to coming to the Department she provided statutory required training to state agencies on contract and grant management. Amanda also served as an educator for eleven years while earning her Masters of Education in Educational Leadership. In her current role, she enjoys collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that grant funds are used strategically to provide the greatest impact to our most vulnerable students at our most fragile schools.
Dr. Dakeyan Chá Dré Graham servers as the Executive Director of the Bureau of School Improvement. He is transitioning into this role after serving two years as the Executive Director in the Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice. Dr. Graham is the recipient of the 2020 Florida Teacher of the Year after being selected as the 2019 Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year. During the 2019-2020 school year, he was on sabbatical from teaching and served as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education. In this role, he toured the state delivering motivational speeches and workshops focused on empowering teachers to create the most impactful learning experience possible for their students. Dr. Graham also serves as the Vice Chair of the Florida Council of the Status of Black Men and Boys, as a member of the education committee and chair of the mentorship committee. He was also appointed by the governor of Florida as a Commissioner for the Florida Commission on Community Service. His passion is to fight for ALL students to have an equitable educational experience while continuing to positively impact the next generation of world changers.
Caroline Wood serves as the Director for Comprehensive Support and Improvement Graded Schools overseeing the Turlington Staff. Carrie initially joined the Turlington team as a Program Specialist in March 2020. Prior to joining the Turlington Team, Caroline served in various roles in Orange County which included Teacher, Resource Teacher, Dean and Assistant Principal. Currently she supports the School Improvement process by providing guidance to the districts and reviewing all required documents for schools in turnaround. Caroline also is the contact person for School Advisory Council (SAC) questions and has been a part of the CARES review time. She is honored to continue her passion for education at the Department of Education and believes every child will be successful through the support and involvement of all stakeholders.
