NEW VISION PLAN IS NOW ACTIVE
Bay Shore is excited to offer a new Vision policy through General Vision Services (GVS), effective July 1st! Unfortunately, we were unable to hold an Open Enrollment meeting as we typically would. As a result, all Teachers have been automatically enrolled in individual Vision coverage; however, dependent information was not included in this process. If you would like to enroll any dependents in your vision plan, please send me each dependent's name and date of birth. If you decline health insurance coverage with the District, you must include a copy of each dependent's birth certificate and a marriage license if applicable. We will work diligently to ensure your dependents are enrolled as soon as you provide their information.
In the interim, if you happen to be at a provider’s office seeking care for your dependent and they are not in the system, the Benefits VIP team will be able to assist in getting them enrolled right away. Please call the number on the attached flyer and they will be able to have your dependent enrolled while you wait. Employees on Buyback will still be required to provide appropriate documentation of dependents to the Business Office. The Benefits VIP flyer includes their contact information and hours. We encourage you to keep this number accessible to ensure you can access care for your dependent(s) when needed.
Please be advised that the district has decided to move forward with MetLife as our new dental carrier, effective January 1, 2022. The BSCTA officers met with the district and representatives from Corporate Synergies to hear a presentation, ask questions, and receive a side-by-side comparison of all options. We believe that this new dental insurance plan will either mirror or surpass the overall coverage provided under Guardian while simultaneously offering some stability for a few years. In addition, we have requested that the specific documents for the plan be sent out to the staff as soon as possible so that our members can decide which of the two plan options (DHMO or PPO) is best for them and/or their family. Please note that the "paperwork" transition from Guardian to MetLife should be somewhat smooth if you currently take the insurance, as much of the information is already on file.
