Having an M-License isn't only needed to get an insurance discount, but is required to operate a 2-wheeled street-legal vehicle, (or 3-wheeled; in some cases, such as "trikes"), over a certain size (usually 50cc) in most places.
To get started, you'll need to look up the license requirements for your location. HERE is a good place to start looking into an M-License.
Another way to earn your M-License (esp. in the states) is to participate in (& pass) a Motorcycle Safety Course (which may be called something else where you live). The basic safety course will not only teach you basic driving skills & safety / emergency techniques, but it will also help you get used to maneuvering the weight of a motorcycle.
Upon passing the safety course, you'll receive a waiver for your Knowledge Test, Road Test, or both... not to mention a discount on your insurance premium.
While it won't earn you additional insurance discounts, we still strongly encourage new riders to consider taking advanced rider courses, to help them further hone / refine the skills they will learn while driving their bike. In addition, advanced courses will either help prevent or help break any bad riding habits.
