ACTIVE= currently in full swing and well- established
IN PROGRESS = currently have mice and genetics to work with, but not yet where I want them to be, or not established and secure
DREAM LINE = A line I really want to breed and plan to get, but don't yet have mice for.
ACTIVE
MAIN GOALS: Temperament and health (great pets, basically)
This is my main line and the only one I kept when I almost stopped breeding in 2023. The foundation of this line came from a large variety of places and breeders, including mice from the eastern US, Oregon, and a few from here in Utah! I did not keep all the colors and varieties separate, so all the genetics got muddied together, with the focus on selecting the friendliest, healthiest mice. Because color was not a primary focus, this line took on a mind of its own, becoming a poor angora-coated line, with mostly diluted recessive yellow, black, splash siamese, an occasional low-expression pied, and lots of random c-dilutes. It is a very pretty line, but SO CONFUSING as far as genetics go.
here's some more specific genetic info for this line, in case you're curious:
KNOWN TO HAVE/CARRY
a^e: extreme black
a: nonagouti
e: recessive yellow
c^ch: chinchilla
c^h: Himalayan
p: pink eye dilution
Spl: splash
s: pied
go: angora
MIGHT HAVE:
sa: satin
d: blue
b: Chocolate
Interestingly enough, this line has brought up an interesting question-- does extreme black work by turning fault hairs(yellow hairs) black, or by making them white/clear?
if the cause of this line's dilution is exblack as I believe it is, then it is clear to see that extreme black dilutes yellow pigment to white, rather than turning the mouse darker! In my recessive yellow mice, the exblack(if that's what it is) is turning all the yellow mice into creamy mice instead.

FUTURE PLANS: I will be keeping this line around for sure, and using it to add friendliness and health to other lines I bring in. I've recently crossed in a blue pied line as well and have seen some AMAZING angoras and blacks, so i plan to pull those traits out in future generations.
I also want to test my theory by bringing in some exblack and normal recessive yellow to do some test breeding. Health and temperament will always be #1 with this line though, so we'll see what it becomes with time! I can't say for sure it will remain dominantly recessive yellow.
IN PROGRESS
MAIN GOALS: I want to breed for agoutis, both normal and diluted,- in texel and rex coats. I won't be focusing on type as much, and will give most of my attention to Health, temperament, and coat.
I now have quite a few agoutis, and two texel lines i can use to combine with my agoutis to get my rexes and texels!
My main concerns currently are health and coat quality, the texel lines aren't the most robust, so I will be doing some outcrosses to my stronger personal lines to improve health. I also plan to keep these lines isolated until I am able to ensure they won't pass anything along to my more established lines. I also need to work on coat density, as the texel line I got from Oregon also seems prone to very sparse coats, and I personally prefer a very dense coat.
The pictures below are of mice I had once upon a time that made me fall in love with agoutis, and what I aim to produce once again.
IN PROGRESS
MAIN GOALS: this line will be more show/appearance focused, with good tails, size and ears being important. for color, i want to aim for foxes, mostly blue-based, but with some fun added by splash, extreme dilution and siamese. i'm hoping for lots of fun blue hues on top, contrasted by a creamy white belly!
this goal is going to take a very, very long time but i'm excited for it. I got a couple show lines from oregon that need a LOT of work, but by combining them with my personal healthier blue/splash/blue fox lines, i believe i can see some great improvements. for the rest of 2024, i plan to focus on outcrosses and health breeding to improve the longevity and mothering skills of the line. Once i get some strong, sturdy females from my pairings, i will then move my focus to type and color. The show genes present should help my efforts to improve type go pretty fast once that becomes the focus.
GENES I NEED TO MIX TOGETHER
d:blue
a: black self(maybe a^e too, to help mute yellow?)
a^t: tan
c^h: himalayan
c^ch: chinchilla
c^e: extreme
Spl: splash
SOME OUTCROSSED MICE THAT WILL BEGIN THIS LINE CAN BE SEEN BELOW
DREAM LINE
MAIN GOALS: This line will be focused primarily on making healthy dominant hairless mice, with dark color as a secondary goal.
This line will be one I mix with every other line depending on the needs of the line. Hairless can be very healthy( I have a senior hairless who is now 2 years old!), but they can easily be prone to issues if you dont breed carefully. For that reason, I will let color be on the backburner. I will generally be trying to breed darker colors and varieties of hairless though, as I enjoy a good darker colored hairless. I do not have ANY dominant hairless yet, but I eventually hope to get some from at least two sources to ensure I'm starting with good variety.
SOME MICE FROM THE BLUE SHOWLINE OUTCROSSES:
BELOW ARE MORE MICE FROM MY CHAOS RECESSIVE YELLOW LINE
These blues are the Outcross foundation for my future blue fox line. I bred a FRR blue pied tan texel to a BCC chaos recessive yellow to get these pups, and they are SO CUTE!
blue splash angora
splash fox angora
3 blue tans
I am keeping all current babies from this litter to use as breeders. I am hoping that by 2025, I have a few good examples of blue foxes from these starting babies. the splash fox will be especially helpful. these babies will be crossed into the show lines i have, as well as the agouti lines to improve health while still being the needed colors.
