It can be tough, learning about mouse care, genetics, and history! Here are some resources that I have found personally informative. These are not sponsored and of course, I always recommend checking as many sources as possible. In the world of animal husbandry, everyone has a different opinion, so one voice won't be enough to fully understand a topic.
Finnish Mouse Club is a great resource for learning mouse genetics. It is simple, easy to navigate and also has some good care information! One of my favorite mouse sites.
AFRMA (American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association) is another great resource for learning genetics, and has a larger collection of pictures than the finnish mouse club. The website is harder to navigate though, and the information can be outdated. If you want to show mice though, they do have some good resources!
FMBA (Fancy Mouse Breeders Association) Is the largest, most popular mouse association in the USA. They dont have as much info on genetics, but if you want to know show standards, or see a list of breeders in the US, they're an awesome resource.
The Fancy Mice Breeders facebook group is a great place to go if you want advice or education from current experienced breeders. whether youre a pet owner or a breeder, i reccomend this group over others for learning about the current state of mouse breeding across the world.
Ashe Rrsak's America-based genetic info:
Amazing if you want to know a bit more about genetics specific to the US.
from australia, another great genetics-education resource
The Coat Colors of Mice: A historical book on the coat colors of mice!
Fancy Mice, by an old fancier:
A historical book on the mouse hobby! Not accurate to our care today, but very interesting
the history of breeding mice for science:
An article on mouse history for those curious about mice in science
Check out these YouTube channels about Mice!! Maybe you'll be inspired by what you see and get new ideas for your own care. Always remember that no two owners do the same thing, so it's good to use your own judgement when deciding how to care for your personal pets or breeders.
here are some links to breeder websites! please do your own research before picking a breeder, but these links may help you become aware of more breeders in the western US!
