I grew up in the Midwest in the state of Illinois and moved to the East coast to Maryland in 2020. What I have come to realize is that although each coast has similar values there is a stronger emphasis on one in each. The Midwest appears to be more focused on family while the East coast seems to be business focused. I believe that since the DMV area contains numerous significant government buildings, that may be the reason for the business mindset. For a young person such as myself, being only 22 years old, I have felt that being in the East coast at this stage in my life is what I needed. I have been given great opportunities with getting deeper in into the business world by moving to the state of Maryland.
I currently work in the Federal Government as a Human Resources Intern. At my job I am responsible for processing actions needed to help complete the final stage of the hiring process for new hires and interns. Some of my other duties include, transmitting documents into systems, inputting awards, processing payroll documents, and assisting my team members with gathering information for background investigations, inputting drug test results, as well as working tax deferrals due to COVID-19.
I've grew up around business due to my parents being the owners of one. They own Disc Security Alarm Services, which has been around for over 20 years. Keeping in mind that I am 22, I have been around the business environment my entire life. I spent my free time when I was younger drawing in my parents office and as I got older I assisted them with functions of the business.
I want to explore different options in business, so I will be well rounded and understand all the necessary parts that go into running one. I love my job in human resources because as they say "HR is the heart of a business." Being a part of such a critical section of a business is fulfilling to me. for future business endeavors I would be interested in pursuing a career in Procurement Management, Human Resources Management, or any opportunity that allows me to travel. My ultimate goal is to become a CEO, so I am open to jobs that allow me to keep advancing.
Below are two certificates I have earned in my free time. More certificates can be found throughout the website. These two I am very proud of because the first one is from a case study competition where I was one of the finalist (more information given in the additional info section). The second one is a certificate of appreciation I received from donating and sending cards to children at St. Jude's. During my free time I try to volunteer, such as at Feed My Starving Children and get involved in extra-curricular activities, such as the Entrepreneurship Academy.
