FARTHER AND FARTHER FROM ZERO
Suddenly, I fall from the pavillion
into a place where I see the ugliness,
hypocrisy, rouge on a sunken face,
a thorn lodged in a kidney, the blind crone
holding a laurel wreath for the winner,
her black ribbons in shreds,
her eyes dark with purple,
a gold anklet on her shriveled leg.
The puppet show looks charming,
but go behind the screen and see who runs it.
Wash your hands and face of this charade.
Anyone who wants these prizes
flares up quickly like a wood chip.
There is one who can help,
who turns the wheel from nonexistence
to a sweet-breathing emptiness.
Words are ways we add up the breath,
counting stress and syllable
with our exacting musical knack
that takes us farther and farther from zero.
-RUMI
Director's note
This Play is a Meditation
We are all connected in profound and mysterious ways. And yet everything seems so small and
ordinary. Think about it…
What are you?
Think of the people, creatures, materials that existed as separate entities before they broke
apart and became a part of your body. The food, water, and air you consume and became you.
What are you? Recycled atoms? It must be more than that because, after all, you are something
that can know, and be known.
There’s a word in my head. I write the word and you read it. Now it’s in your head. As you read
these words and sentences, my thoughts are entering your mind and mingling with your
memories, perceptions, and ideas. Thoughts mutate into new thoughts, and they seem like
they are yours. Like they are you. But are they?
What are you?
Look around at all of these people around you.
They all have thoughts and ideas and perceptions churning in their heads, just like you.
They see that look on your face, and you see that look on their face.
You have an idea of what they are thinking, and it seems so real; like you are glimpsing the
truth.
And then it occurs to you that you know what they are all about. You feel it in your gut.
And you know what they probably think you are all about.
And you might even have a sense of how they view you viewing them viewing you…
And on and on.
This happens like you are coming in contact with some objective truth. It seems so certain. But
it’s not. It’s your mind.
The only thing that makes any of this possible is your mind. What a strange thing the mind is.
Consciousness. Your ability to be aware.
It is impossible to capture the fundamental mystery of our existence. It is so big and profound
and interesting. We are a bunch of atoms that came together in a certain way to be able to be
aware and seem like you are you. And yet, it seems so ordinary and mundane. We go to the
grocery store, and stress about our weekend plans, and get lost in the dream of our lives as if
we were not a part of some unimaginably massive construct of a universe that is capable of
being known.
The play you are about to see has some characters who are lost in the stories of their lives and
they struggle in vain to feel as if they were not a part of some unimaginably massive construct
of a universe that is capable of being known. They suffer because they hold on to the delusion
that they are separate and have to fight all these “others”.
We hope you like it. Treat the play like a meditation. A chance to pay attention, and give
yourself over to the moment.
That’s about it, I think.
Oh yeah…Turn off your cell phones.

Jordan daniel Smith (He/him)- Frederico
Jordan is incredibly excited for the opportunity to be a part of Only the Ghosts Can Know! He’s been acting for 10 years studying with The Bristol Theatre Program and Bridgewater State University. Since moving to Rhode Island, he’s most recently been working in the Pawtucket theatre scene with Burbage Theatre Company as Justin in “BLKS”. Straight plays are good but he can’t resist Shakespeare. His work with Reverie Theatre Group and Shakespeare in New Bedford has been very rewarding personally and artistically. He’s played roles such as Orlando from “As You Like It” and Caliban in “The Tempest”. Working a lot in devised theatre he’s gotten a chance to really take control of his characters with a notable role being Edgar Allan Poe in “An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe” also directed by David Ledoux. Additional roles include Lysander in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Haemon in “Antigone Ablaze”, and Brutus in “Julius Caesar”. Jordan would like to thank David Ledoux and Taylor K. Corbett for their continuous support and wisdom.
Micah Lima (they/them)- Brandi
Micah is thrilled to participate in Only the Ghosts Can Know with the Bristol Theatre Program. Their previous work with the program includes portraying Haimon in Antigone and Peter Pan in Peter and the Starcatcher. Micah found their love for theatre at age six and has been dedicated to the art since. They are very passionate about incorporating their queer, nonbinary identity into every piece of art they make. They strive to carve a place in the theatre world for others like them.

Brianna Pacheco(She/her)- Lily

Some of her notable roles include Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, Mrs. Webb in Our Town, Cassius in Julius Caesar, and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Brianna is passionate about storytelling and grateful for the opportunity to bring complex characters to life. She would like to thank her family, friends, and the entire cast and crew for their unwavering support.
jonah Creaney(he/him)- Andrew
Jonah Creaney is ecstatic to be a part of this production as Andrew, as well as a puppeteer. This performance will mark the end of his first year at BCC, after one more year he plans to transfer to RIC as a film major. His first year at college was filled with many challenges, both academic and personal, a sentiment he feels many college freshmen can relate to. A significant challenge he faced was with his performances. This was the first time Jonah was cast in speaking roles for theatre productions. While he did take part in theatre non stop for six years, he was always in the ensemble. Due to this, Jonah believed acting was something he enjoyed, but he did not have the talent for. This was until he took acting classes with David Ledoux, who taught Jonah his complex psychological approach to acting. It was here when Jonah put an excessive amount of time and effort to make sure he is performing at the best level he can. Jonah feels his improvement from the start of the year to now is immeasurable. A sentiment which is shared with many of his colleagues and mentors.
Jonah would like to thank David Ledoux, the director of this production, for his commitment, dedication, time, wisdom, and effort he has put into this show. He would also like to thank the other directors he worked with this year, Elizabeth Bettencourt, and Taylor K Corbett. Both shows were a joy to work on, and both contributed significantly to his improvement. He would also like to thank some of his fellow actors and classmates: Briana Lawrence, Alyssa Oliver, Jerry Riddlen, Micah Lima, Cordelia Thorn, Jacob Perry-Niewola, and many more for their encouragement, collaboration, and friendship.
Caitlin Peck(She/her)- Talia
Caitlin is grateful and thrilled to be a part of Only The Ghosts Can Know. Besides working towards her Associate Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Theatre, Caitlin has also dedicated time to develop her craft as an actor in multiple shows with the Bristol Theatre Program. Some of these roles include Marullus and Octavius (Julius Caesar), Emily Webb (Our Town), Carrie (After The Blast), and Lady Capulet (Romeo and Juliet). Her favorite part about theatre, besides the friends she meets with every new show, is the magnetic energy and connection felt on stage. To her, nothing compares to the authenticity that happens when you give over to the scene and are completely present with your scene partner. Caitlin would like to thank the director and cast for encouraging her throughout this entire process. She would also like to thank Eric, her family, and friends for their constant support.
