Inclusive and Equitable Learning Environments
Building classroom communities within the areas of the classroom:
Children engage in whole group phonological awareness and alphabet and number recognition routine activities. Additionally, children learn about specific topics that relate to their community and home lives.
In this area, children engage in sociodramatic play, exploring areas within their life. Also, they can engage with other children, learning from each other, such as sharing cultural practices. Moreover, in the Dramatic Play Area, toys and community helper dress-up clothes are included for the children to explore with.
Children can explore different science and sensory activities, using the developmentally appropriate materials in this area, exploring different aspects in the classroom that are found in the world around them.
In this area includes toy cars, wooden blocks, legos, and other developmentally appropriate materials that children can build with and break down. Children can practice working together to create structures by manipulating the materials (Childcare, 2019).
Children have the space to sit in the Library Area and explore books that are developmentally appropriate and of interest. Included in the Library Area are books that relate to each child’s culture, family dynamic, traditional practices, disabilities, social-emotional development, etc.
