Brie is an 1997 International with a T444e. A quick search shows this engine/oil pan typically take about 18 quarts of oil, it ended up taking more like 19! This is about ~$120 worth of oil.
There is some debate about whether it's wise to use synthetic oil (which is supposed to be higher quality) on older engines. I don't know!
Changing the oil in a skoolie is actually exactly like changing the oil in any other car... with 5 gallons of oil.
Oil drain pans, to catch the used oil. And a bucket, in case of over-flow.
A new oil filter (on an older vehicle, should be replaced whenever the oil is)
An oil filter wrench (slippery little things)
A creeper, if you love yourself
Not crushed stone, like we're parked on here
Plastic sheeting, in case you make a mess!
Position the oil drain pan beneath the bolt.
Loosen the bolt, let all the oil drain into the pan, swapping pans as necessary.
Oil filter will be full of... oil! Yah. Let it drain.
If the new filter isn't full, the engine will have to run while the new filter fills up, without recirculating oil. Replace filter.
We have been a hard time starting some days, and the 7.3 is known to have sticky injectors, so we're trying some stiction eliminator.
Remember that nearly 2 quarts went into the filter! Overfilling is not great.
