These would be laminated and posted up at the front of the classroom, I will write important information on each of the squares to give the students an understanding of what we are doing in each designated block.
Lining up and Walking in the Halls
I would make sure that at the beginning of the school year, we would have a group conversation about respect and what it means to respect ourselves, our friends, our teachers, and anyone else we encounter. Then when we are lining up to leave the classroom I would remind the students of this conversation and apply it to how we should behave in the hallway
Making sure we stay quiet so we do not interrupt other classrooms that are trying to learn
Keeping our hands to ourselves
Not touching items on the walls
Touching other friends in line
Keeping our line a line and not running around in the hallway to switch spots
•Entering the Classroom
It is important that every task that the students are expected to do in the morning is done first by me. I would never ask a student to do a task that I either did not already do myself or I wouldn't want to do myself. This creates a more democratic classroom environment where everyone feels as though they are doing their part for our classroom community to succeed. The best way to teach this is to have an indepth modeling demonstration on how to go through this checklist and then just be there as a reminder for students until it becomes a routine and they do it on instinct.
•Classroom Jobs
Every Monday I will select six students to have one of the jobs, they will be in charge of that task for the week and then the cycle will continue at the beginning of every new week. Teaching this routine can be a slow process depending on the grade level. For younger grades, I may need to assist with the jobs more often than I would for older students. Having jobs once again helps build a sense of community within the classroom and allows the students to take pride in coming to school because they are more involved in the day-to -day routines.
•Information for Absent Students
This is a worksheet that I will fill out for each day that a child is absent. It allows not only the student but the family of the student to know what exactly occurred while the student was out for however long. It also is a great way for me as a teacher to see if maybe I should set up a conference with the family or some other type of enrichment activity(for example if a student was out sick for a whole week, I could see how many vital lessons this student has missed and can communicate with the family about the best way to help this student catch up without overloading them with makeup work
•Out-of-Class (bathroom, water fountain, etc.)
This would be handled the same way that the hallway procedures would be handled. It ties into the conversation around respect for not only our classroom but the school as a whole. Student should understand that when they leave the classroom that they are still representing our classroom community, and it important that we are behaving the same way we would be in our own classroom.
